Dr. Melissa Gish received her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill under the direction of Prof. John Papanikolas. As a part of the UNC EFRC: Center for Solar Fuels led by Prof. Thomas Meyer, she studied the photophysical dynamics of dye-sensitized photoelectrosynthesis cells (DSPECs) before joining NREL in 2018 as a postdoctoral researcher with Dr. Justin Johnson in the Spectroscopy and Photoscience Group. As a postdoc, Melissa studied singlet fission molecules in solution and at interfaces in the NREL Solar Photochemistry program. Melissa became a staff scientist at NREL in 2021 and has leveraged her expertise in ultrafast spectroscopy to work on a wide variety of molecular and material systems. In SPECS, Melissa utilizes ultrafast spectroscopic and spectroelectrochemical techniques to understand the exciton and charge transport in polymer-based photoelectrochemical systems.
